<title>Recently, Imperial Tobacco Canada was going to celebrate their \&quot;100th birthday\&quot; in Montreal, with a big media event and the unveiling of a special statue. A member of Quebec parliament was also said to attend. Many youth groups had planned to protest. HOWEVER, the tobacco company got word of the demonstrations and decided to cancel their media event. Furthermore, the Parliament member\'s office was flooded with angry phone calls, and she not to attend the \&quot;celebrations\&quot; -- Catherine Laska, expos&Atilde;&copy;</title>

<title>The Canadian tobacco industry is at it AGAIN! Du Maurier, the most popular cigarette brand, owned by Imperial Tobacco, has now put out a canadian version of SNUS. They have been doing \&quot;trial marketing\&quot; in Alberta, and now Ontario. The biggest problem is that 1- Du Maurier is the most popular brand among young people in Canada, 2- Snus is sold at a lesser cost than cigarettes, and is thus more appealing to buy, 3- it\'s sold in a fancy little tin, similar to those made for breath mints. This is deciving, and therefore, many people underestimate the fact that this is yet another profit-making, deadly and addictive tobacco product. -- Catherine Laska, expos&Atilde;&copy;</title>

<title>National Non-Smoking week is in Canada every year, during the 3erd week of January. This year\'s theme was \&quot;Youth taking back their lives from the tobacco industry\&quot; There were a series of public, media covered \'drop-dead\' organized by youth groups across the country. We wanted to demonstrate the unity and power of Canada\'s youth against the tobacco industry. Youth even used slogans such as \&quot;we want the tobacco industry to DROP DEAD\&quot; and \&quot;Canadian youth are brining the tobacco industry to a DEAD stop\&quot;. The last of the drop deads took place on Parliament hill, in Ottawa (Canada\'s capital) at noon on Saturday Jan 26, 2008. -- Catherine Laska, expos&Atilde;&copy;</title>
